St Davids is the UK’s smallest city and has a population of a mere 2,000. It is located in Pembrokeshire in Wales. It was built as a result of the creation of Saint David's Cathedral, which was a popular centre of pilgrimage in the middle ages. Bishop's Palace, built next to it in the 14th-century is now a ruin and is in the care of Cadw. However it is currently open to visitors. It is reputed that the patron saint of Wales, Saint David, was born just south of the city in St Non’s, during the year 500 AD. Another alleged fact is that Porthclais, which is currently the city’s port, was the place of his baptism. It is also reputed tradition that Saint David founded the city in the year 550 AD.
