St Albans City Guide |
| St Albans is located in southern Hertfordshire. It was called in Roman times Verulamium. The town grew from the hill where a British martyr named St Alban, who was the first of his kind, was beheaded during the years around 324 CE. Notably, the Royal Navy has named six of its ships HMS St Albans during its existence. Among St Albans famous sons is Samuel Ryder, who founded the Ryder Cup and Francis Bacon. St Albans is twinned with Nyíregyháza in Hungary and Nevers in France. The modern day St Albans has relatively expensive housing due to it’s proximity to London and it’s large number of public houses. |
