Southampton City Guide |
| Southampton is a port and city located in the south of England. It has always been part of Hampshire until 1997, when it was made a county in its own right, but remains part of Hampshire for ceremonial purposes and common usage. It was bombed heavily during the second world war and many of its historical buildings were lost as a result. However, the city walls survived and remain to this day. Southampton has a modern day population of approximately 221,193. It is also famous for the fact that it was once the port from whence the Titanic sailed before it was famously sunk by an iceberg. |
