| Preston lies in the north west England and has only recently gained city status. It is home to one of the oldest football league clubs, Preston North End FC. The estimated population in 2002 was 129,991, with a population density of 914 per km2. The city is famous for its huge bus station, housing the tallest church in England namely St Walburge's Church. It also houses one of the largest universities in the country, University of Central Lancashire. Richard Arkwright, who invented the water frame which boosted the late 18th century textile industr, is one of the most famous people to come from Preston along with Francis Thompson, who was a poet and died on November 13, 1907. |
