Peterborough City Guide |
| Peterborough, originally situated in Northamptonshire, lies now in Cambridgeshire in the east of England. It was originally a Saxon village and had its name changed to Burgh around 992-1005 when Abbot Kenulf had a wall built around the city. During the middle ages Peterborough had vibrant weaving and woolcombing industries and held two fairs, namely the Peters fair and the Bridge fair. Modern day Peterborough underwent a transformation from the 70s when Peterborough Development Corporation was formed to double the population. During this time, up until 1991, the population increased by some 45%. It’s modern population is 157,000 and is a very multicultural city. tPeterborough is twinned with the cities of Alcalá de Henares (Spain), Vinnytsya (Ukraine), Viersen (Germany), Forli (Italy), and Bourges (France). |
