Londonderry City Guide |
| Londonderry is situated in the north of Northern Ireland in the county of county Londonderry. It has a population of 105,066 and is one of the longest populated cities in Ireland. Its name is disputed between the mostly Catholic nationalists and the modstly Protestant unionists. To nationalists it is known as Derry and to unionists it is known as Londonderry. This is mainly seen in poiltical discourse for unionists as often in casual conversation this is not the case, but it is the case with nationalists that they always refer to it as Derry. This is reflected in roadsigns in the area, with those within the Republic referring to it as derry and those in Northern Ireland referring to it as Londonderry.it is often the case that these roadsigns are vandalised to remove the word London by nationalists. |
