Liverpool City Guide |
| Liverpool is situated in Merseyside in the north west of England. With a population of 441,477, Liverpool also has the second largest port in the UK. It is also famously the city where the Beatles came from. In fact Speke airport was renamed John Lennon airport in honour of this. Locals may also be known as Liverpudlians or Scousers. The river that forms the port of Liverpool is the Mersey and there is three tunnels beneath it, one rail and two road. The Mersey Ferry was made famous by Gerry and the Pacemakers song “Ferry ‘cross the Mersey”. Liverpool also has four Universities: University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University, and The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The latter Institution was set up by Sir Paul McCartney in 1996. |
