| Exeter can be found in the county of Devon in the south west of England. It has an approximate population of 111,000. It used to be a port town fro Saxon times and is the lowest bridge point of the River Exe.Exeter also houses the Met office and is one of the three largest employers in the area, including University of Exeter and Devon county council. Exeter has a rich historical background including having a defensive wall built by the Romans, some of which remains. In 876 Exeter was attacked by the Danes, followed by being attacked by William the Conquerer for an 18 day seige in 1068. During the English civil war the city took the Royalist side. The M5 motorway links Exeter to Bristol and Birmingham in the midlands and Plymouth and Cornwall further south west. |
