Belfast is situated in Ulster in Northern Ireland and is the largest city in both these two places. It has an estimated population of 277,391 and is also the home to the Northern irish government. Its population density is a relatively large 2,415 per km². The city was originally built on the site of the mouth of the river Farset and is where the City gets its name. The Irish translation of Belfast is Béal Feirste, meaning mouth of the Farset. This river has recently been replaced as the city’s most important river by the river Lagan. The city’s history originates back to the Bronze ages, with remains of hill forts from the Iron Age still being in existence there.
