Bangor City Guide |
| Bangor is a relatively small city in north Wales with an equally small population of an estimated 20,000 people. A relatively large proportion of the population are students, with a third of them studying in the town. It is known as a university town, but is also a seaside resort. The origins of the city dates back to the 6th century AD when Celtic saint Deiniol built a cathedral in the city. The cathedral that sits there today is a relatively ne structure added to over the centuries. The word Bangor originates from the Welsh language and it means ‘fenced off enclosure’, which is how the original site of the cathedral was. Allegedly, Bangor also has the high street that is the longest in Wales. |
